Lost Wax Casting

a 2-session workshop

Kit Fee: $25.00 (max: 15 gr sterling silver)
(payable in cash to instructor on 1st day of class)
Prerequisites: Basic Wax Carving & a completed wax carving to sprue & cast
 OR instructor permission
Ages: 18 and up
Maximum Class Size: 6 Students

Each student should bring a finished wax model to be cast not to weigh more than 15gr in sterling silver when sprues have been removed. If heavier, student will be charged for extra metal. If student does not have a wax model one will be provided at an additional charge, please advise 10 days prior to class.

In this 2-day course, you will learn basic “Lost Wax” Casting techniques & will make a sterling silver casting of a wax model you have selected for your specific project (10gr. Max). Day 1: Lecture, demonstration & orientation covering both vacuum & centrifugal casting techniques including specific materials & equipment for both processes, spruing techniques & the details involved to produce a quality casting, such as alloy choices, investments & burn out cycles. Working hands-on with the instructor today, each student will sprue & invest their specific wax project to be cast. Then the students will load and program the kiln for the overnight burn out. Day 2: Arriving today, you will find that your “burned out” wax mold has been created. Each student will cast their mold & finish by cleaning up their specific project.
